Have you ever wondered what it is like to take a horse pack trip, canoe among the granite cliffs of a Colorado lake, find a fossil, explore a cave, or ride a bike along mountain trails? At Big Spring, you will choose among these and many more all-day and overnight adventures. From climbing 14,000 foot peaks to rock climbing with ropes, the richness and depth of the mountaineering program at Big Spring challenges both novice and experienced hikers, backpackers, and climbers. After hiking and camping at some of the 30 developed campsites on Sanborn property, you will be prepared to head into the high country for a 2-5 day adventure in Colorado’s most pristine wilderness: backpack with friends and expert leaders along the Colorado Trail, pitch your tent in high alpine meadows at the base of Mt. Sherman or Mt. Yale, celebrate on the top of a Fourteener, and slide down snowfields. You’ll practice “environmentally friendly” camping skills, learn mountain safety and gain confidence in your ability to live within the natural world. Horseback riding is also a major program at Big Spring and many boys enjoy a 2-5 day horse pack trip. These uniquely Western adventures explore the spectacular and rugged areas to the west and south of camp.

The time away builds self-confidence; the
trips stretch them physically and mentally; the setting brings peace
and contentment (which they hardly realize but which I notice).
