High Trails TripsHave you ever wondered what it is like to take a horse pack trip, canoe among the granite cliffs of a Colorado lake, find a fossil, explore a cave, or ride a bike along mountain trails? At High Trails summer camp for girls, you will choose among these and many more all-day and overnight adventures.
From climbing 14,000 foot peaks to rock climbing with ropes, the richness and depth of the mountaineering program at High Trails challenges both novice and experienced hikers, backpackers, and climbers. After hiking and camping at some of the 30 developed campsites on Sanborn property, you will be prepared to head into the high country for a 2-5 day adventure in Colorado’s most pristine wilderness. You might backpack with friends and expert leaders along the Colorado Trail, pitch your tent in high alpine meadows at the base of Mt. Sherman or Mt. Yale, celebrate on the top of a Fourteener, or slide down summer snowfields. You’ll practice "environmentally friendly" Leave No Trace camping skills, learn mountain safety and gain confidence in your ability to live within the natural world. Sanborn Western Camps/Colorado Outdoor Education Center operates many trips under special use permit from the USDA Forest Service, Pike & San Isabel National Forests.
Horseback riding is also a major program at High Trails summer camp and many girls enjoy a 2-5 day horse pack trip. These uniquely Western adventures explore the spectacular and rugged areas to the west and south of camp.
