Happy May to everyone! Our April snowshowers are bringing May flowers, as we have started to see the first hardy wildflowers of the year appearing on the sunny hillsides around camp. There are still pat ches of snow here and there, but the fields are beginning to turn the lightest shade of green, and we are seeing plenty of buds on the aspen trees. Spring is here!

With the warming weather, all of our facility preparations are in full swing. Last week a crew brought in 10 cement trucks and “poured” the new Big Spring pool—it was fun to watch, and it will be even MORE fun to swim in this summer! With only one more week of our outdoor education program left, cabin preparations at High Trails are underway—they will be clean, sparkly and ready to go when staff arrive on June 6th. The High Trails stables and the Big Spring barn have also undergone enormous transformations—making both spaces more useful organized and bright.

After a winter of great trainings and workshops, Staff Week 2008 promises to be informational, fun and jam-packed. Beyond the standard CPR/First Aid training, many staff will receive Wilderness First Aid instruction, Trip Leader Training, Lifeguard certification and Supervisory Training. By spending a week together going on campouts, learning Leave No Trace outdoor skills, playing games, planning activities, learning camp songs, and applying youth development tools and techniques to different scenarios, our staff will be ready to go on opening day: excited, enthusiastic, knowledgeable and prepared for the campers' arrival.

The program offerings for our 60 th reunion summer will be diverse, new and exciting. With new additions to the SOLE (Sanborn Outdoor Leadership Experience) program, a slew of great 14,000 foot mountains to climb, new horses, arts and crafts coordinators at both camps, and a phenomenally talented group of staff to teach programs from African dance to technical rock climbing to leading kazoo hikes, Sanborn Summer 2008 will be incredible! With camp only a month away, our year round staff is buzzing with antici pat ion and expectation….we can't wait for the campers and staff to arrive!
