JANE SANBORN. CEO and COEC Board Member. Jane has worked with the camps since graduating from Colorado College with a degree in English and Education. She was the Director/Program Director at High Trails 1970—1999. She wears many hats at Sanborn, but she is extra experienced with the balloon variety.
JERRY McLAIN. Outgoing CEO and COEC Board Member. Jerry has been with Sanborn Camps since 1958, including many years as Program Director and Associate Director at Big Spring, and Director of the High Trails Outdoor Education Center. He contributes his experience, integrity, and wisdom to all aspects of the camps’ operations. Jerry is a former teacher; his degree is in Social Sciences and Education from the University of Colorado.
JULIE RICHARDSON. Director, High Trails. Julie attended High Trails as a camper in 1962 and has been associated with the camps in many roles since then. Most recently, she served as the Assistant Director at High Trails in 2000-2002 and as Director in 2003. She has a strong background in education and youth development and has more than 20 years of teaching experience in Kansas City. Julie graduated from the University of Kansas with a degree in Education.
MIKE MACDONALD. Director, Big Spring. Mike came to Big Spring in 1991 and, after working in a variety of roles from counselor to Program Director, became Director in 1999. He has a Master’s Degree in Whole Systems Design and provides enthusiastic, nurturing leadership at Big Spring.
ARIELLA ROGGE. Program Director/Associate Director, High Trails. Ariella started her career at Sanborn when she was twelve. After five years of camper and five years of Sanborn staff experience, she continued her work with kids in the high school classroom. Ariella and her family returned to Sanborn in 2001 to take on the Program Director role and to discover her inner IT guru. She lists mountain golf, Gymkhana, climbing mountains and making Pad Thai in the backcountry as some of her favorite activities at camp. Ariella received a B.A. in English from Colorado College and is a certified secondary English educator and WEMT.
RYAN McGOWAN. Associate Director, Big Springs. Ryan worked as a counselor in 2000 and 2001, then he was hired as a Ridge Leader in 2002. Ryan returned to Sanborn in August of 2003 after a year stint teaching kindergarten for Americorps in Washington State. Ryan is a Top Rope Certified AMGA rock climbing guide and has been instrumental in the development of the new SOLE program. Ryan graduated from Central College, in Pella IA with an Elementary Education Degree. Ryan is getting married to the beautiful Ashley Nord on May 26, 2007.
ELIZABETH (Izzy) RUNDLE. Junior Camp Program Director. Elizabeth first worked as a cabin counselor in 2002. After staying for a series of HTOEC seasons, she was hired as a ridge leader/program director for Sanborn Junior. She continues to enjoy marshmallow roasting competitions, role playing in large groups and singing silly songs for the entire lodge to enjoy. Elizabeth graduated from Benedictine College in Atchison, KS with a B.A. in Spanish and a minor in Business.
JOHNNY DOMENICO. Program Director, Big Spring Ranch. Johnny has years of camp experience beyond Sanborn, he worked for eight years at Geneva Glen. He began his tenure at Sanborn with the outdoor education program in 2005 and has since worked at the camps in both counselor and ridge leader capacities. He is a master of many languages, most of them computer based. He has a personal relationship with Carmello Anthony and he digs long shorts. Johnny graduated from Colorado State University with a degree in Journalism and Technical Communication.
CARLOTTA AVERY. Associate Director, High Trails. Carlotta has been at High Trails for as long as anyone can remember. She started as a nanny for the Sanborn clan, and then has had many responsibilities added along the way. Currently, she is co-director of the High Trails Outdoor Education Center program and is one of the only people on the ranch who knows where you can find whatever it is you are looking for. Carlotta graduated from Olivet College with a BA in Instrumental Music Education.
SAM CARKHUFF. Ranch Manager and Riding Program Director. Sam's career as an avid horseman began at Sanborn as a camper and continued through his work as a wrangler and year round work as a ranch hand. With almost ten years of financial and tech sector experience, Sam brings a varied set of interests and experiences to the Witcher Ranch. Sam graduated from Kansas State University with a degree in Computer Science. He loves NASCAR, climbing 14er's and wearing polyester pant suits. More than anything, though, he loves the smell of horse poop in the morning.

MAREN MACDONALD. Medical Liason and Riding Program Director. Maren's relationship with Sanborn is long and varied. She was a camper for many years, then worked as both a counselor and wrangler. She graduated from the University of Wisconsian with a B.A. in French, and then attended R.I.T. where she studied to become a Physician's Assistant. She currently works as a PA in Colorado Springs, assists the nursing staff in the summer, helps direct the horseback riding program, and is married to Mike Mac--the director of Big Spring.

BRINKLEY MESSICK. Head Wrangler, Big Spring. Brink has been at Sanborn for the last five summers, working as a counselor, wrangler and head wrangler. He has also worked for the outdoor education program for the last two seasons. Brink graduated from Appalachian State University with a degree in Anthropology with a concentration in Sustainable Development. He's an artistic, liberal cowboy who likes to wear dresses (only to dances, not while riding).
ASHLEY NORD. Publications and Marketing. Ashley graduated from Denison University in Granville , Ohio in May 2005, double majoring in psychology and communication. Ashley was a camper for 5 years and returned to SWC as a counselor in 2004, and a wrangler in 05-06. Currently she assists the camps in a variety of ways, from producing the new songbook to designing a new quotebook to stocking and running the camp stores. Ashley is married to Big Spring Associate Director, Ryan McGowan.
