JUNIPER WEST

Morgan Kelly, Counselor (bottom right)

Greetings and salutations all, my name is Morgan Kelly and this is my first summer at Sanborn. I’m currently in my second year at the Community College of Allegheny County (Pittsburgh, PA), where I am studying a mixture of art and psychology. Eventually, I hope to accumulate my Masters in art therapy in order to help people with disabilities and mental health disorders; a field I’ve worked in the past six years. I love exploring, creating, reading, singing, and making all of life’s moments silly, fun, and full of laughter. I am over the moon excited to journey through the Rockies, teaching young girls to be strong, fierce, and independent! This summer is going to be unparalleled in excellence! I cannot wait to meet you all! Peace, love, and art.

Megan Moss, Counselor (bottom left)

Hello! My name is Megan Moss and this will be my first summer working at Sanborn. I am from Laramie, Wyoming where I am double majoring in Environmental Systems Science and Environment and Natural Resources with a minor in Outdoor Leadership at the University of Wyoming. I love to ski, ride horses, climb rock, hike, bike and most things outdoors. In the winter I coach the ski team at the local ski area outside of Laramie called “Snowy Range”. I am more than excited to be part of the Sanborn community this summer at camp! Can’t wait to meet you!

Anna Francis, Assistant Counselor (top)

Hello, everyone! My name is Anna Francis and I am beyond excited for this summer! This will be my first summer at Sanborn and my first summer ever being a camp counselor. It’s a little different than my average summer job as an ice cream server, haha!! I am currently a freshman at the University of Toledo, where I study English. I grew up in Medina, Ohio which is about 45 minutes outside of Cleveland. Most of the time you can find me hiding out in the library typing papers but when I’m not there I am usually jamming out to One Direction, eating sushi, hanging out with my Pi Beta Phi sorority sisters or running. I am very passionate about nature and the outdoors so I am stoked to spend an entire summer in Colorado, hiking, riding horses, and getting to know our amazing campers and staff!!

Stacy Poppe, Counselor (left)

Hey everyone! My name is Stacy and I feel really lucky to spend the summer in Colorado. Growing up, I went to camps; but this will be my first summer at Sanborn and I couldn’t be more stoked to be a counselor! I have lived in Phoenix, Arizona my whole life and am currently studying elementary education at Grand Canyon University (Lopes Up!). My goal is to teach somewhere between 3rd-5th grade. I love the outdoors and frequently travel to northern Arizona to hike and enjoy the cooler weather. I have played volleyball since third grade and I am on the club team at school. Summer is here and I am ready to meet everyone and make fun memories!

Emma Hollrah, Counselor (center)

Hey y’all, I am Emma Hollrah! I was a camper for two years and I’m so excited to spend my third summer here as an AC before I have to start doing big internships. I am currently a design student at Appalachian State University in Boone, NC where I am studying Industrial Design and Fashion until it is time to start a new adventure in life with design firms all over the south. I know design might not seem like a crazy thing to study, but I am an adrenaline junky when you put me outside. I was invited to join the App Sate Competitive Rock Climbing Team and I mountain biked at the base of the Matterhorn in Switzerland over the summer while I explored the Alp towns of Europe. This summer, I am so excited to meet my girls and sprinkle them with the outdoor spirit to get them all excited about the amazing adventures we will all have together. I can’t wait to watch my girls bloom under the hot Colorado sun as they learn new and exciting things!

Megan Pepper, Assistant Counselor (right)

Chloe Stiffle, Counselor (left) Hello everyone!!!! My name is Chloe Stiffle! This will be my 6th summer at camp (2nd on staff) and I couldn’t imagine spending it anywhere else. I am going into my senior year at Colgate University where I am double majoring in History and Educational Studies. This past semester, though, I’ve been studying abroad in Copenhagen, Denmark and adventuring throughout Europe. Besides traveling, I am passionate about writing, listening to live music, running, and making memories with friends. At camp, my favorite things to do are summit the 14ers, Vespers, dance like crazy at the camp dances, and eat anything and everything (especially pita pizzas and s’mores). Just like all of you, I am counting down the days until I get back to my favorite place in the world and get to make many new, incredible memories with you all!!

PONDEROSA EAST

Li Downs, Counselor

Hello! My name is Lydia Downs! Most people in my life call me Li, pronounced Lee. This will be my first summer at High Trails Camps and I’m incredibly ecstatic to start my time at camp! I go to St. Olaf College in the beautiful town of Northfield Minnesota I’m in my sophomore year of the nursing program! When I’m not nose deep in my textbooks I like to spend my time running, eating, dancing and competing with my beautiful cross country/ track teammates! I’m originally from Denver, Colorado and I spend most of my breaks away from the arctic tundra that is Minnesota, gallivanting in the mountains on skis or on foot in beautiful Colorado! A couple fun facts about me is that I enjoy EVERYTHING that involves the outdoors. I’m happiest frolicking above tree line, searching for summits, and I have an intense love for peanut butter and most flavors of ice cream! There are so many things I’m excited about this coming summer at camp! The main one is that I get to spend my entire break in the great outdoors with amazing people! Can’t wait to meet all of the staff and campers!

Emily Gates, Counselor

Hello! My name is Emily Gates and this is my very first summer at Sanborn! I’m a junior social work major at Bradley University in Peoria, IL but I’m originally from the Chicago suburbs. Some fun facts: I love coffee and crafts! Whenever I have time off school, my friends and I love to go camping; or I head out with my dad I head out to Crested Butte, Colorado! I’ve grown up loving the outdoors and I can’t wait to be there all summer, in my happy place (Colorado)! Can’t wait to meet all of you as well!

Gretchen Meister, Assistant Counselor

Hi! I’m Gretchen. I’m from Annapolis, Maryland and will be attending the University of Wyoming on an Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps Scholarship to study pre-med. I love to be outside, whether it is running horseback riding, hiking, kayaking or napping in the sun. I have lots of kid experience from my 8 years of babysitting, a mentorship in a special needs program, and my job back home: leading pony rides and farm animals at birthday parties. I love being out west and up in the mountains, so I hope my girls do to. I look forward to working with you and your girls this summer!

SILVER SPRUCE WEST

Liv Christine, Counselor (top)

Hello! My name is Olivia but everybody calls me Liv. This is my first summer ever spending it away at an outdoor camp, however, my summers are usually always spent in nature! Whether I’m up at the lake house or exploring my hometown’s regional parks, I truly enjoy spending my free time outdoors. The rest of the year when it is not summer vacation, I spend working towards achieving two Bachelor degrees at Sonoma State University in Northern California. I will be graduating in May 2017, finally, after spending 5 years of studying Communications and Psychology. I have spent the last three years working for two families whom I’ve had the pleasure of watching their children grow, and within the last year have been working in the school district as a one-on-one aide for children with learning disabilities. I’ve found my true interest of work to be with children and the neuroscience within developmental growth. After graduating from college, I will be spending the summer in Colorado working as a spunky, fun camp counselor and then in the Fall I plan on becoming an Au pair in New Zealand for 12 months. I hope to continue with my academics toward research of behavioral health and neuroscience, but I want to explore and experience every opportunity I can beforehand. I cannot wait to be surrounded by Colorado’s beautiful nature and breathe-taking views. I can already tell this is going to be by far one of my most memorable summers!

Leah Herring, Counselor (bottom left)

Hi future friends! My name is Leah Herring and this will be my first year at High Trails and my first year as a camp counselor ever! I am going to be a junior at the University of Arkansas and I am studying social work with minors in political science and Spanish. My dogs (Lucy and Charlie) and my parents live in Kansas City, where I grew up and visit frequently. Lately I have been learning how to Ripstik, reading lots of books, and growing my own vegetable garden. When I’m not watering my plants, you can find me exploring Northwest Arkansas. It is full of small towns and great hiking spots, so I get to spend all of my free time outdoors which I love. I am so excited to meet everybody at camp and get to know the Sanborn community. My favorite memories are from summer camp, so I am thrilled that I get to help create those for other people for a whole summer!

Emily Holt, Assistant Counselor (bottom right)

Hi everyone! My name is Emily Holt and this will be my first summer at High Trails! I attended camp in Wyoming when I was younger and I am so excited to be starting a new journey this summer in CO with all of you. I am from Bethlehem, PA and am finishing up my freshman year at St. Lawrence University in upstate New York. Currently I am undecided in my major but Geology is a high possibility. I am on the rowing team at my school and when I’m not practicing I love going to the climbing gym on campus or completing puzzles with my friends. I am so excited to meet everyone this summer and can’t wait for the adventure to begin!

SILVER SPRUCE EAST

Ciara Miller, Counselor (right) ¡Hola! My name is Ciara, but you can call me Cici if that’s more exciting. This will be my first summer with Sanborn, but my fifth time returning to the camp. I camped in sixth grade, and returned three times as a high school counselor during fall sessions, so needless to say I have found an outdoor home at High Trails. I am currently studying Spanish at the University of Kansas, and something else that I have yet to decide upon…check back in with me in August :) I love to be outside and be active, from hiking and running to group fitness and yoga, and I love to dance in a variety of styles - tap and hip hop are my favorites. I’m a former theatre kid, avid cheese enthusiast, and my favorite pastime is making playlists on Spotify for events that do not exist. I never realized how much of a “Colorado kid” I am until I left the state for school, so I am thrilled to be back home this summer, basking in the high altitude sunshine and enjoying all that High Trails ranch has to offer. You might catch me this summer speaking in a rough British accent in some ridiculous costume, digging rocks out of my Chacos, or singing musical theatre tunes as I spin in circles in a wide open field just like Julie Andrews. You will certainly find me embracing my inner child, and if I get to ride a horse even once this summer, I’ll be a happy camper - pun intended. I can’t wait to meet everyone in June! Oh yeah, and ROCK CHALK JAYHAWK!

Emily Haver, Counselor

A portrait of the artist as a young woman: Emily Haver, first year EVER at High Trails Camp, bachelor’s degree in Anthropology with a minor in Geology from CU Boulder, lover of sugar, stories, and words that start with the letter “E”. This artist believes life is constantly being created and I can’t wait to create a new and glorious gallery with all my campers this summer! I grew up outside with three other sisters on a ranch in southern Colorado and am excited to share the wonder, discovery, and confidence that it instilled in me. I also think everyone has loads of fun facts to share about themselves whether they’ve traveled the world or traveled across town and I’ll be asking you about them all summer long. I’ll start us off with one about me: one of my bones is part bovine! See you soon!

CEDAR LODGE WEST

Claire Collins, Counselor

Hello all! My name is Claire and I am soooo excited to be back at Sanborn for my second summer. While I’m not dreaming about camp, I’m finishing my senior year at Harvard studying history. Aside from working, you can find me hanging out with my friends and teammates, eating, and playing rugby. Some fun facts about me: my first word was cheese; I’ve missed summer camp only 6 summers in my life; my spirit animal is a black bear because I love campsites, people, and am fiercely protective of the things I love. I can’t wait to be outside everyday explore more of A-bluff, and hike up mountains with campers that make my day, every day.

Karaline Green, Counselor

Hey Fam, Karaline Green here coming at you from Minnesota! I am so excited have the opportunity to learn, serve, grow, and adventure alongside such a rad group of women at High Trails this summer! What a blessing. A few things to know about me: 1) This is my first summer at Sanborn as a counselor. 2) I am currently a sophomore studying business marketing & sociology at Bethel University. And 3) if I had to choose, I commonly say any combination of people, coffee, or the outdoors makes for a happy camper. If I’m able to get all three at once, WOW! Overall, something I am looking forward to most during my time at Sanborn is the crazy adventures and being able to build and partake in an authentic, life-giving, community. I’m so excited to meet you all and discover what this summer holds!

Marisa Rivas, Assistant Counselor

Hey y’all! My name is Marisa and I am so thrilled to be spending my first summer at High Trails as an AC! I grew up in a little tourist town called New Braunfels, Texas and I currently go to Texas State University in San Marcos, Texas where I am majoring in psychology with a minor in business and a minor in communications. I was very fortunate to grow up right in the middle of the Hill Country, where I am surrounded by rivers, lakes, state parks, and hills to hike. Some of my hobbies include playing the piccolo in the marching band and the basketball band at my university, talking A LOT, admiring the beautiful view of nature, or doodling flowers in my notebook. I am speechless at the fact that I am getting to spend my summer with so many beautiful souls while being surrounded by the beautiful Colorado! Can’t wait to meet y’all!

Izzy Marshall, Assistant Counselor

Hi, everyone!! My name is Izzy Marshall, and I am thrilled to be headed back to Sanborn for my fifth summer! I am originally from a small farm in rural Maryland, where I was raised with my two older brothers. In the fall, I will be starting my sophomore year at Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, where I am pursuing a joint major in International Relations and Economics with a minor in French. While I am a total book worm and absolutely love school, I cannot wait to get back to Florissant and the Rockies!! I’m ecstatic to meet all of you amazing and adventurous campers, so we can begin our sensational Sanborn summer together!! At camp, you’ll find me hiking around property, making beautiful creations in the Art Barn, splashing around in the pool, or writing letters home!! Some fun facts about me: I loooove to read, peanut butter is one of my main food groups, and Sanborn is one of my favorite places in the world (no real surprise there)!! I’m so looking forward to meeting all of you!!

CRYSTAL PALACE EAST

Emily Burnham, Counselor

Hey everyone! My name is Emily, but I’ve most recently been known at Sanborn as Edna, thanks to a few campers last summer who thought I needed a new fun & silly nickname. This will be my ninth Sanborn summer and my second on staff. I couldn’t be more stoked to be back adventuring at camp! I’m currently a sophomore at Colorado College, studying sociology, environmental issues, and dance. On any given day, you can probably find me trying to do homework outside, going to too many dance classes, eating a lot of pasta, and staring up at Pikes Peak trying to figure out how it’s so pretty. I can’t wait to meet everyone this summer, hike like crazy, watch other people ride horses, and ideally spend a lot of time chatting with Vickie while tasting all of her cookie batches. Word up!

Alaina Geiberg, Counselor

Coming Soon

Clare Rachwalski, Assistant Counselor Hey friends!! I’m Clare, and I could not be more excited to spend my first summer ever at Sanborn as an Assistant Counselor. A bit about my roots: my home is a cozy red brick house in a southwest suburb of Chicago (hot dogs & deep dish for the win). A bit about my current place: I’m just finishing my first year as an industrial design student at the University of Cincinnati, and I’m loving every second of it. Although I was born and raised a Midwestern gal, my heart is happiest in the mountains, and I try to get out west to backpack and explore every chance I get! I am a mug cake enthusiast and a HUGE podcast geek, and it’s clear that concerts and coffee shops are the enemy of my bank account. This summer, I’m looking forward to laughing, learning, sharing stories, and making new friendships with all of you! I can’t wait!

CRYSTAL PALACE WEST

Ellen Chapman, Counselor (left)

Hello! I’m Ellen Chapman. This will be my fifth summer at High Trails, and I am over the moon! Camp has a very special place in my heart. I am beyond excited that this summer I will be a counselor striving to make Sanborn as great an experience for campers as it was for me! Currently, I am a sophomore at Chapman University (I KNOW, my last name…very ironic) seeking a BFA in creative writing. Some of my favorite things are theatre, mountains, Australian Shepherds, cats, donuts, pizza (really any type of food), warm sunny days, literature and making people laugh. Excited to get to know each camper and cannot wait for what fun this summer will hold!

Julie Shipley, Counselor (right)

Hi there! I’m Julie Shipley and I’m thrilled to be spending my first Sanborn summer as a counselor. I grew up in St Louis, Missouri and study psychology at Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa, so I’m about as Midwestern as they come! On an average day you can find me up early at rowing practice, learning sign language in class, or eating copious amounts of pizza with my friends. I’m so excited to be spending time with all the campers this summer singing songs, swimming, and eating s’mores (some of my personal favorite camp activities). I’m counting down the days until I can switch out my books for boots and go hiking through the beautiful Colorado landscape!

Tallie Steiner, Assistant Counselor (center)

Hi! My name is Tallie and I’m beyond exited for my eighth summer at Sanborn and first year on staff! I’m from a town just north of Chicago, though I think of Sanborn and the mountains like a second home. Currently, I’m a freshman studying biology and Latin American studies at Lewis and Clark College in Portland, OR. Although I love Portland and the Pacific Northwest, I can’t wait to get to Sanborn and experience that wonderful Colorado sun! When I’m not doing scholarly things in the library, I love to go on runs in the state park across from my campus, drink water, find new combinations of foods that go well with peanut butter (my all-time favorite combo is peanut butter, honey, and bananas), and facetime with my cat and dog. I’m looking forward to all the adventures this summer as well as meeting new people!

#KINNIKINNIK EAST

Megan Anderson, Counselor (center)

Hello! I’m Megan. Although I’m from Des Moines, Iowa, I consider the mountains my home. After being a camper for 4 years at Sanborn, I’m beyond excited for my first year on staff as a counselor in Kinnikinnik East. My passions include cats, chocolate chip pancakes, yoga, art, dance and the great outdoors. When I’m not in the art barn and lifeguarding at the pool, you’ll find me hiking, and summitting mountains. I know this summer is going to be incredible and I can’t wait for the fun that is yet to come!

Emily Collins, Counselor (right)

Hello! My name is Emily and I am beyond excited to spend my first summer at High Trails. Currently, I’m a sophomore at Scripps College studying economics and psychology, with an emphasis in child development. My favorite things include pizza, the sun, funny internet videos, and Sudoku. More than anything else, I want every kid to have the amazing camp experience that I did, and I cannot wait to come back to camp this summer, singing songs around the campfire, dressing up in silly costumes, eating s’mores, and making tons of new friends (campers and staff alike)!

Mariah LeBeau, Assistant Counselor

Hi!!! My name is Mariah Le Beau and I am so so excited to spend my 9th (maybe 10th?? who knows, time flies) summer at Sanborn, and my first year on staff!! I’m about to finish my first year at Wesleyan University in Connecticut and have no idea what I’m majoring in yet, but am considering both Psychology and Sociology. I’m even more excited to spend the summer in the mountains after spending so much time on the East Coast. I grew up in Colorado and am a huge fan of the Denver Broncos. I love fuzzy things, Flamin’ Hot Cheetos, animals (specifically dogs) and being with people. I can’t wait to make some delish puppy chow, eat 8 s’mores in one sitting, snuggle in hammocks, and have the best summer with the best people!

Crystal Guerra, Counselor (left)

What’s up everyone! Crystal Guerra here. Yes, the last name is Spanish, but I’m sadly not adept at speaking it. This shall be my first summer camping EVER (I don’t count sport camps), as well as my first visit to the beautiful state of Colorado. I am from the Southside of Atlanta, Georgia, where I currently attend Georgia State University. Next fall I’ll finally be a junior, studying Speech Communication and minoring in Film Studies. Anna Moser, Counselor (right)

Hi! My name is Anna and this will be my first summer at High Trails, but my 9th summer of camp! I’m from the Blue Ridge Mountains of western North Carolina, and I study environmental science at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. I love rock climbing and backpacking, and have what some may consider an inappropriate dependence on cheese. I’ve worked at my childhood camp for the past 3 summers, so I can’t wait to explore some new terrain and meet some great new people at Sanborn!

Emily Judge, Assistant Counselor (center)

Hey guys! My name is Emily Judge (however, most people just call me Judge) and I’m a freshman at Case Western Reserve University (I know, it’s a very long name) in Cleveland, Ohio. At school I study math and cognitive science and I mean I might as well say I study rowing too because that’s all I ever do. This will be my first time ever at High Trails and I’m so stoked to be an AC! I’m from the suburbs of New York City and I’m beyond excited to spend this summer in Colorado with all of you! Don’t be fooled by the label “New Yorker”, I absolutely love being outside in nature exploring! Some fun facts about me: I can survive off a diet of apples, peanut butter, and granola bars, last summer I completed a self-supported 3,300 mile trip across the country on my bike, I have hiked the New Hampshire section of the Appalachian Trail and I really enjoy running and just generally strolling! I can’t wait to spend this summer outside and meet all of you! Cheers!

I graduated college with a BS in Biology from Lake Erie College in Painesville, OH. I love puns/corny jokes and exploring nature with friends new and old. I’m most looking forward to eat camp food again and of course meeting all your lovely faces! See you this summer!

#GOLD HUT EAST

AnneLeise Nachman, Counselor (top)

Growing up in Central Pennsylvania, I had a lot of opportunities to play outside and come back in afterwards with lots of dirt and a big smile on my face. In college at Penn State, I made an effort to protect my local ecology and class A streams by working with the Environment & Natural Resources Institute to create videos that told the story of the valiant effort of volunteers and their kiddos. After my experience in college, I moved our west to Seattle and spent the beautiful, rainless summers working on film projects and serving coffee; then, I wintered in Tempe, Arizona to explore outdoor rock climbing in the desert. I transitioned from film to rock climbing instruction the following spring at Stone Gardens Climbing Gym in Ballard, Seattle. A love for teaching youth how to harness their own power and achieve their goals was ignited in me, and I committed myself to helping folks, young and old, achieve their climbing goals. It’s amazing how empowering a simple activity, such as climbing, can bring about a whole other level of self-confidence we didn’t even know existed. At camp this summer, I hope to continue to watch as campers and peers alike grown with one another as they take on their personal mountains.

Emma Antall, Counselor (bottom left)

Hey everyone, my name is Emma Antall (some people call me Mimi)! This is my first summer on staff at High Trails and I could not be more excited! I’m from southern California and just finished my sophomore year at Colorado College, which is located not far from High Trails. I’m currently in love with the mountains of Colorado, and there’s no place I’d rather be. I’m majoring in molecular biology and minoring in chemistry & environmental science. I am considering becoming a field scientist, so I can spend a lot of time outdoors! I love staying active with friends by skiing, hiking, and rock climbing. I’m excited this summer to climb 14ers! I love HT because I think being outdoors is an amazing way for young girls to gain confidence that they can carry with them the rest of their lives. I love being goofy, my favorite shoes are my crocs, and I’ll eat anything with peanut butter on it. I spent my childhood at camp and am beyond excited and grateful to be part of such a great community!

Allyce Armstrong, Assistant Counselor for all of Gold Hut (bottom right)

Hello lovely friends! My name is Allyce Armstrong and this will be my 9th summer at Sanborn and my excitement level is through the roof!! Camp is still and will always be my second home and I can’t wait to meet more new and amazing new people and add to the thousands of reasons why I love Sanborn. I am currently a freshman at the University of Alabama majoring in Interior Design and my minor is Consumer Science. The times I am not studying about what chair will look good with what paint in a room, I like to go to the movies, rollerblade, listen to country music, workout, shopping, pretty much anything along as I’m surrounded by people I love and who make me happy. Summer 2017 will for sure be a summer to remember!

Randi Presas, Counselor

Hello lovelies! My name is Randi, and this will be my second summer at High Trails! I can’t wait to spend another amazing summer with all of you hiking around this beautiful state. I grew up here in Colorado, and I love being back! I went to school in California at UCSD and graduated in March of 2016 with a BS in Biology and a minor in Psychology. Since graduating I’ve gone back to school and became a certified EMT! I’d eventually like to go to either Physician’s Assistant or Medical School. I can’t wait to take campers rocking climbing and to the summits of some of Colorado’s 14ers. I’m always a Hard 9 stoke level when it comes to fun, and summit snacks are my favorite! I’m looking forward to another amazing summer with unforgettable campers!

Gwen Schmidt-Arenales, Counselor

Hey everyone! My name is Gwen Schmidt-Arenales and this will be my 3rd summer on staff and 9th summer overall at Sanborn. I grew up in Boulder, CO and I CAN’T WAIT to get back to that good ol’ Colorado sunshine. I’ll be a senior this fall at Lewis & Clark College in Portland, OR pursuing a BA in French Studies with an English minor. In my free time I love to hit the local bouldering gym or go climbing outside when the rain lets up (doesn’t happen too much in Portland). I also enjoy impromptu dance parties, cooking yummy food, and glorious sunsets. I spent last fall studying in Strasbourg, France and absolutely loved it. It was so incredible to have the opportunity to travel and go on so many new adventures- also the cheese was amazing. I am beyond excited to get back to camp and spend the summer outside with so many wonderful people. Can’t wait for another unforgettable summer!

Haylee Vieregg, Counselor

I am a graduating senior at Texas Christian University majoring in strategic communication. I am originally from Charlotte, NC but Fort Worth is my second home. I currently work at an event planning company and I hope to work in public relations after graduation. This will be my second year on staff and my seventh year at Sanborn. Finding Sanborn as a kid was the biggest blessing in my life. I met my best friends here and discovered what I truly love in life. I am so excited to work with the Junior Counselors this summer and go on amazing adventures. I love to run, read mystery books and bake cookies. I am energetic and love trying new things and cannot wait to share my experiences with all of the High Trails campers!

Kelly Ahman, Ponderosa & Silver Spruce Ridge Leader

My name is Kelly Ahman and this will be my second summer working at High Trails! I am originally from Lima, OH, but I just officially moved to Colorado after finishing my degree in sociology from the University of South Carolina. I am so excited to be living in the most beautiful state where I can actively pursue my passions like running, hiking and spending time in the great outdoors! After this wonderful summer at HT I plan to be an active AmeriCorps volunteer and continue my work with youth and community development. As always this will be a summer to remember at Sanborn and I am so lucky to be a part of it! Cara Mackesey, Cedar Lodge, Crystal Palace, Kinnikinnik East Ridge Leader

Hello again! I think I am a little too excited to be spending my fourth summer at High Trials!! This year I am looking forward to hanging in hammocks, sleeping under stars, and canoeing with a crazy, cool, crew of campers all summer long. Originally from Wisconsin, I am a 5th year attending the University of Wisconsin – La Crosse studying Recreation Management and Spanish. This winter I decided to ditch the snow and intern for the North Carolina Outward Bound School’s Florida Programming. While trying not to melt in the heat I enjoyed long runs on the beach, paddling down new rivers, jamming to One Direction, and playing my ukulele. Can’t wait to climb as many mountains as possible, create unforgettable memories, and for all of the adventures I know this summer will bring! Megan Blackburn, Kinnikinnik West, Columbine, Gold Hut Ridge Leader

Hey there! My name is Megan Blackburn and I am thrilled to start my fourth summer on staff here at High Trails. In May of 2016 I graduated from Colorado State University with a degree in Food Science and Human Nutrition. Molly Malone, Outcamp

Hello Campers and Parents! My name is Molly, I am super excited to be back at Sanborn, home sweet home. This will be 8th summer at camp, basically most of my life. When I am not loving the Colorado mountain air and camp food I am studying Human Dimensions of Natural Resources at Colorado State University, basically I am learning how to be a camp counselor full time. When I am not studying, I am out climbing mountains with my dog, Izzy, maybe rock climbing, or practicing my guitar skills. This summer I am excited to provide the best trail food a camper can dream up!

Erin Dvorak, Arts Coordinate

Hi, hey, hello, my name is Erin Dvorak :) I enjoyed my first summer at High Trails in 2015 as their arts and crafts programming coordinator. I am a spunky person who feels at my best when I am outdoors. I have a lot of hobbies but some of my favorite things to do are photography, rock climbing, looking at bugs, and meeting new people. I’ve been residing in Kansas City, MO since I last left HT working at an urban charter school on the operations team. I and am looking forward to moving to Colorado and pursing outdoor education, starting with my second summer at HT. I will be in in the same role and can’t wait to continue the traditions of exploration and creativity in the Rockies.

Haley Schreier, Photographer

Hi, sunbeams! My name is Haley Schreier and this summer will be my third spent at High Trails. I am elated to be returning as the camp photographer and resident yogi! I am originally from Madison, Wisconsin and attended college in Minnesota at St. Olaf where I studied Women’s and Gender Studies and Race and Ethnic Studies. After graduating in 2015, I haphazardly packed up my backpack and set out to see some world. This plan led me up, down, over, and across SE Asia, Australia, and Europe. While in Spain, I settled in long enough to receive my yoga teacher training! The training changed my life and gave me a foundation and clarity that I now carry with me every day. After 13 months of backpacking, I returned to Madison last summer where I’ve been grooving ever since. My days are often filled with attempted watercolor paintings, experimental vegetarian recipes, legging folding and hand standing at Lululemon, hot yoga classes, and radical friends. But the restless winds are blowing in the breeze and tugging at my toes, so I’m practically jumping out of my shoes in anticipation to come “home” to Sanborn! Can’t wait to meet each and every one of you.

Blair Sisk, Kitchen Coordinator

Hi there! My name is Blair Sisk I will be returning this year for my 10th summer at High Trails (7 summers as a camper, 3 summers on staff.) I’m currently tackling semester 2 of my 3rd year at the University of Colorado where I am double majoring in English and Psychology and also playing lacrosse on the division 1 lacrosse team (5th ranked might I add, GO BUFFS!) Sports and school take up the majority of my time but in my free time I enjoy fly fishing at the river, stacking hammocks to hang out with my friends, or cooking in my itty bitty kitchen. Something interesting about me is I recently underwent 3 knee surgeries and would definitely consider myself an expert on the anatomy, recovery, and treatment of the human knee. I simply cannot wait to be up at camp again soon and I’m looking most forward to sunshine, the smell of Ponderosa pine trees, getting silly and opening up with all the beautiful young ladies at camp, and the responsibilities of my job as kitchen coordinator- a position that is new to me at camp! Summer can’t come soon enough! Happy Trails!

Annie McDevitt

Howdy B.M.W.s (Beautiful Mountain Women)!! My name is Annie and I am so excited to be a wrangler at High Trails this summer! This will be summer #8 for me! I grew up Connecticut and went to school at St. Lawrence University in Upstate New York. I can’t wait to #growstrong and go on trail rides and pack trips with all the amazing horses and awesome campers this summer! Yee-Haw!!

Jenna Howard

Hello! My name is Jenna Howard and I can’t wait for my third summer on the Sanborn Staff! In May, I will graduate from Colorado State University with a degree in civil engineering, and I’ll start my hard-core construction job in the Fall. Until then, though, I am super exited to be a wrangler again! Yee-haw! I am originally from a small town in Wisconsin, but I cannot get enough of the Colorado Mountains. I absolutely cannot wait to get back in the saddle this summer and hang out will all the kiddos, sing songs, wear silly costumes, roast s’mores, and, of course, practice our gymkhana skills. This summer is going to be a blast– bring on the adventure!

Nell Davis

Hi everyone! My name is Nell Davis, and I’m excited for my second summer at High Trails! Last year, I had a great time being an Aspen counselor. As a wrangler this summer, I am very much looking forward to meeting some more awesome campers and hanging out with the horses. I recently finished my Masters in Natural Resources and certificate in Environmental Education at University of Idaho, after graduating from Williams College in 2015 as a Geology and Art History double major. I grew up in Vermont, and I have always loved being outdoors, especially when hiking, biking, and cross country skiing. I also love horses, and my favorite thing when I was younger was definitely trail riding, especially when we used to decorate all the horses from the farm near my house and ride to a neighboring town to be in their Fourth of July parade. This summer, I am particularly looking forward to seeing all the campers again and to meeting new ones, plus being able to go out on horse trips and explore more of the ranch!

Bri Roat

Coming soon

Anna Elder

Hey there! I was a camper here at High Trails for 8 years and am very excited to start my first year on staff as a wrangler. Elise Rose – 1st Session

Hi! My name is Elise and I’m excited to be one of the camp nurses at Sanborn this summer. I’m originally from Michigan, but currently live in New Haven, Connecticut, where I am working towards becoming a Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner and Nurse-Midwife at Yale School of Nursing. This is my first year at Sanborn, but I have a lifelong love of camp– from being a camper, to a counselor, to working in the kitchen. About Jessie Spehar

Jessie began her career at camp as a counselor in 2006 and returned each subsequent summer, taking on more responsibilities each year, including those of Camp Photographer and Supervisor of Canoeing and River trips. She joined the year-round team in 2013 as Marketing Director for the camps. Jessie has a B.A. in Elementary Education and an M.A. in Special Education and taught for 4 years before joining the COEC full-time staff. Stuffing M&Ms into marshmallows prior to roasting them, sitting in a canoe or her SUP board on top of the water and photographing everything are some of Jessie’s biggest joys.
