Friendships That Last A Lifetime

Each Sanborn Junior term includes about 20 boys who live in bunkhouses at Big Spring with their counselors and about 20 girls who live in cabins at High Trails with their counselors. Sanborn Junior campers come from many states and several countries, creating a community of richness and diversity. Sanborn Junior campers have completed the first through fourth grades, and are divided into two groups for living and program. Older Sanborn Junior campers are known as Explorers while the younger campers are Pioneers.

Counselors for Sanborn Junior are chosen for their experience and interest in working with children, as well as for their skill in outdoor activities. They must have at least two years of college.  Elizabeth Rundle has been the Director of Sanborn Junior for the past seven summers and coordinates their schedules and programs. An overall staff to camper ratio of 1 to 4 creates an environment rich in individual attention.

Although the Sanborn Junior campers have their own special programs, they often interact with the staff and campers at Big Spring and High Trails. All of their riding instruction and trips are provided by one of our eight experienced wranglers, and other staff specialists join the Juniors for appropriate activities. The Junior campers enjoy special evening programs with Big Spring and High Trails, eating with older campers in the dining halls, and taking part in all-camp events.
