Names: Sarah Adler and Logan Parr
Current Roles:
Director Team of High Trails Outdoor Education Center
Tenures at COEC:
Sarah’s first fall season was in 2013 and she’s been here for every fall since - she’s been on the year-round team since 2016. Logan worked at Big Spring in the summers of 2014 and 2015. Then, he returned in spring 2017 to work for HTOEC full-time.
Fun Facts about Each Other:
Sarah’s favorite movie is Fiddler on the Roof and she can randomly burst into song at any time. During his first HTOEC season, Logan arrived with 1 pair of pants and then ripped them before the weekend. He then had to borrow pants until he got 1 new pair of them that weekend. He also had a black eye during that season due to running into a ski pole with his eye.

Favorite memory of your time at High Trails?
SA: At High Trails, she remembers one dance party held in the dish pit, where all of the dishes go through to be sanitized. During this particular dance party, the whole HTOEC staff was in the dish pit together having a hilarious time dancing. She thinks the water sprayer may have been involved in the dancing too. Staff trips are also always so memorable for Sarah.
LP: Logan recalls a staff trip to Santa Fe one season that was his favorite. He also loves the High Trails Hoedown and Skit Nights, so one of his favorite memories is when he and Mike Adler ran a Skit Night together, playing two employees of the Boston Police Department. Logan was also an undercover vigilante within the Police Department. It was pretty hilarious.

Favorite cookies?
SA: Sarah loves the small sesame tahini cookies.
LP: Logan has a special place in his heart for peanut butter chocolate chip.

Favorite Discovery Group to teach?
SA: Sarah’s favorite Discovery Group is Prospectors, which teaches students about the history of the West through geology. It was the first topic she taught at High Trails and, before arriving here, she’d had a limited knowledge of geology (so much so that she was Wikipedia-ing Pikes Peak geology before her first time teaching it - we’ve all done that!). She loves Prospectors because through teaching it she’s had the satisfying experience of learning the material better while teaching. She loves the sequence of the material, the hike through beautiful parts of property, and the silliness of the character she acts as while teaching.
LP: Though he’s only taught it once, Logan enjoys Time Machine, which teaches the history of the Earth over time. He loved the experience of teaching it and he really enjoys the topic!

Best quote from a student?
SA and LP: “So far, High Trails is lit.”

Personal favorite Hoedown character to play?
SA: Sarah has often played a character named “Felix Felix,” who is sort of a British celebrity figure and can be either an animal or a human.
LP: Logan and Nick Jordan, a former HTOEC staff member, have been known to play Hans and Franz, two mountaineering brothers hailing from somewhere in Central Europe.

Preferred direction in Chili Chili?
SA: The ones that you love the best.
LP: Either the ones that you love the best, or the moment when everyone is trying to figure out which direction is actually East or West.

About Emily Burnham

Emily has worn a variety of hats here at Sanborn over the years. She began as a camper, then worked on staff for four summers while affectionately known as “Edna,” taught as an instructor at High Trails Outdoor Education Center, and now works as the Assistant Director for High Trails. Her favorite things about camp include eating liberal quantities of chippy dippy bars, singing a little bit too loudly at Vespers, and watching campers accomplish incredible feats. She recently graduated with a degree in sociology from Colorado College and now lives at camp, counting down the days until summer each year.
