Creative Arts

Big Spring offers many possibilities for those who want to explore their creative potential. Pottery wheels and kilns as well as expert instruction are available in the Arts and Crafts Building in the center of camp. A woodworking shop includes everything from woodcarving to building simple furniture. Weaving, tie-dye, batik, mask-making and a variety of nature crafts are just a few of the projects offered during the in-camp program. The Arts and Crafts Building also has an area devoted to Maker Space, a collaborative workspace with supplies and tools where young artists are encouraged to innovate and create to the full extent of their imaginations.

Our scenic environment provides abundant inspiration for sketching and painting hikes, and we also offer programs based on creative writing. Photography is a popular activity at camp and we have two fully-equipped darkrooms.

Each term, campers from Big Spring and High Trails can choose to participate in a drama program which culminates in a performance for the entire camp community.
